Ken from East Yorkshire told us ...
"I have had diabetes for the past 18 years, managing the illness very well. In February 2007 I went shopping, whilst walking down the main street I had a strange feeling come over me, so I sat down to take a rest. After sitting for a considerable time I began to feel a little better. However I was still shaky and although I had taken glucose tablets I could not shake off the feelings of weakness. I made a decision, that I had better get myself home, however when I stood up I passed out and an ambulance was sent for. When after 19 hours I regained consciousness in hospital I had not been able to tell anyone who I was or where I lived. My wife was frantic with worry and so relieved when the hospital was finally able to tell her I was with them and making good progress.
In May 2007 a similar thing happened to me again! I passed out while on my own in town and was once more admitted to hospital. I was unable to tell the medical staff who I was and where I was from. When I did not return home my wife phoned the hospital I was taken to in February. Unfortunately that casualty department had been closed and I was in a different hospital in a nearby town. it was 26 hours that my wife had to wait until she heard from the hospital that I was ok.
Had I been wearing my ICEBand (which I now have), the hospital staff could have accessed my medical information quickly and treatedme accordingly. Also my next of kin could have been contacted immediately. Needless to say I never leave home without my ICEBand on."
To whom it may concern ...
"The idea for the Horse and Rider ICEBand came from an incident involving a friend of mine who was thrown from a horse on a very lonely bridle path. She was found unconscious and taken to hospital where her identity was unknown for approximately 36 hours. Her horse was found in a farmers field, quite a distance from home 4 days later. Had the horse and rider been wearing ICEBands their identity, etc, would have been discovered much earlier."
